How To Make A Bunny Costume
Posted on April 1st, 2008 by howtomakestuffYou have been invited by your colleagues to a rather prestigious costume party. Unlike the previous ones that you have joined, this costume party has a nice cash prize for the winner. Your peers immediately scramble for all the scariest monster costumes. Unfortunately for your colleagues, psychology states that too much of the same thing proves to be quite ineffective. You can easily stand out from the pack of fake monsters if you wore a bunny costume. Make one and show those nasty monster wannabes that good always wins over evil, even at costume parties.
Unlike scary costumes, the bunny costume is primarily centered on the cuteness factor of fictional bunnies like Bugs Bunny and the Easter Bunny. The costume is as cuddly as a pillow and appeals to people of all ages. At first sight, a well-made bunny costume is known to induce “awws” from anyone who sees it. You should be able to provide the same effect if you intend to make your own bunny costume.
The challenge when you make a bunny costume is to make it as cute and adorable as possible despite the fact that the costume is made to fit a full grown human being. Let’s face it, gigantic bunnies are rather scary. Have you ever seen “Donnie Darko”? Your job is to take away people’s attention from the costume’s size and highlight the costume’s fur, belly and its other heartwarming details.
Materials Used:
- sweater (2 sizes larger)
- fake teeth (buck tooth)
- pajamas
- headband
- scissors
- sewing equipment
- pink and fluffy cotton sheet (large enough to cover your entire body)
- pink felt paper (1 yard)
- white felt paper (½ yard)
- cotton filling
- face paint
- gloves
- pink bunny sandals
Bunny Costume Top
To create your bunny costume, you can first get a fluffy cotton sheet and the sweater. Cover the sweater with the fluffy fabric and sew them together. When you are done, affix the pink felt paper in the front-middle portion of the sweater. Stuff the lower portion of the felt paper with cotton to create the bunny costume’s soft belly. Once done, sew the felt paper in place.
Bunny Costume Bottom
Now you can get pajamas and cover them with the sheet of fluffy cotton. Sew the two items together to create the trousers of your costume. Once done, wear a pair of pink bunny-themed sandals.
To make the bunny tail, get a strip from your fluffy cotton sheet and shape it like a ball. Fill it with cotton stuffing then sew it to the bum area of your pajamas.
Bunny Hands
Bunnies have padded feet for protection. In your case, you can recreate that padding for added realism on your costume. Get a pair of gloves and cover them with fluffy cotton. Place a layer of white pelt paper on the palm areas of both gloves. Place sheer strips of cotton filling beneath the felt paper and sew the paper to the gloves. Once finished, you have only one thing left to make, the bunny face.
Bunny Face
The bunny face is probably the least realistic among all the parts of your bunny-inspired wardrobe. Incidentally, this costume component is also where your creativity will come into play. Have a picture of the Easter Bunny or any cartoon rabbit ready to serve as your guide to your costume’s bunny face. Get face paint and ask someone to paint the bunny face for you. Tell your assistant about your entire concept. Just to be safe, ask him to sketch the projected bunny face on a piece of paper until he is completely familiar with your design.
When your assistant is ready, hold yourself steady as he paints the bunny face on your face. Be sure to do it in a cool area because a single droplet of sweat can wreck the entire design. Once he is done, get the sheet of fluffy cotton. Cut a pair of bunny ears and stuff them with cotton. Sew a sheet of white felt paper to the middle portion of each ear. Now, cover a headband with the cotton sheet then sew the bunny ears to the top portion of your headband. Finally, wear fake buckteeth to finish your bunny costume.
At this point, you have a nice bunny costume. You may now wisecrack just like Bugs Bunny or deliver multicolored eggs like the Easter Bunny. You are now too cute to be not given a best costume award in any costume party.
